Doordarshan of India selected the Envivio® Mobile TV headend for its DVB-H pilot. The headend is comprised of the award winning 4Caster™ M2 encoders and the 4Manager™ network management system. The Envivio Mobile TV headend was delivered & installed to Doordarshan by SHAF Broadcast Pvt Ltd, the pilot is delivering a high quality mobile TV experience to Indian consumers.
Doordarshan, the national television service of India, is devoted to public service broadcasting and runs the largest free-to-air satellite services covering the entire country. Its analog territory broadcast network covers more than 92% of India providing free news, sports and entertainment. The mobile TV pilot, launched with eight channels, will be expanded to sixteen channels later this year. The pilot enables Doordarshan to test the reception quality of the broadcast coverage. Doordarshan will also use this opportunity to explore the different possibilities for service bouquets, including advertising and interactive services to gain valuable consumer feedback.
