Envivio Inc. and iDirect Technologies were selected by Maritime Telecommunications Network (MTN), a SeaMobile Company, for its Maritime Satellite Television Network® (MSTV) service. With the successful launch of the service, MTN became the first company to bring live television programming to cruise ships on a global scale. Using Envivio® encoding systems and iDirect Technologies remote VSAT solution combined with MTN's global satellite network and existing onboard communications antennas, cruise ships and other vessels can now provide reliable and crystal clear television programming.
"With MSTV, passengers can access live news and sporting events from the middle of the ocean, no matter how far away they are from home,” said Kevin McCarthy, Vice President of Network Engineering at MTN. "Critical to the success of MSTV is our ability to deliver high quality video with low latency over a VSAT network. Demanding cruise ship passengers expect the best services and Envivio/iDirect Technologies help us to exceed their expectations. Passengers are delighted with the picture quality made possible with the Envivio and iDirect Technologies systems.”
MTN's live TV service to cruise ships is an example of IP video convergence in action. Combining systems and access technologies from Envivio and iDirect Technologies enabled the next generation service provider to offer IP video solutions to seafaring vessels similar to stationary TV services traditionally offered by cable or DTH providers.
