Edgeware Partners with Envivio for Web TV Adaptive Streaming

Interoperability of Edgeware Web TV servers with Envivio SilverLiveTV and iLiveTV to Enable Adaptive Streaming to Microsoft Silverlight and Apple iPhone clients

AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – September 11, 2009 – Edgeware AB and Envivio® Inc. today announced that the companies will work together to provide content providers and operators with content delivery solutions for Internet and Mobile TV that take advantage of the latest adaptive bitrate streaming technologies from Apple and Microsoft. The companies will collaborate to ensure interoperability of Envivio’s iLiveTV™ and SilverLiveTV™ solutions with Edgeware’s Web TV server products. Both companies are demonstrating adaptive streaming technologies at IBC 2009.

Encoding for adaptive streaming is an important ingredient for the success of premium TV and video delivery over the Internet, ensuring uninterrupted, quality viewing when networks become congested. Efficient caching and delivery of popular content from servers positioned close to the consumers minimizes congestion and enables a higher aggregate quality. Interoperability between encoders and delivery servers for adaptive streaming is therefore a vital component of the web TV ecosystem.

The Envivio SilverLiveTV™ and Envivio iLiveTV™ solutions enable operators to offer PC,  Mac and iPhone users multiple channels of video content over wired and wireless networks. The solutions ingest analog and/or digital sources, then simultaneously encode and encrypt the content to enable delivery of protected, premium content at multiple bitrates. The content can then be passed directly to Edgeware’s WTV server, a cost effective and flexible platform for distributing up to 32,000 concurrent streams that offers up to 6 TBytes of built-in storage for time-shift or video on demand.

“Envivio is leading the way when it comes to adaptive streaming encoding,” so ensuring interoperability with them is an obvious choice.” said Jon Haley, VP Business Development from Edgeware,

“End-to-end interoperability is important to ensuring easy deployment and ongoing success,” said Eric Rosier, Envivio VP Business Development. “Edgeware’s experience in implementing Web TV technologies makes it a good choice for operators looking to implement a solution.”
