Envivio Provides Encoding for A-VSB Initiative’s Live ATSC-M/H Mobile Broadcast TV Demonstration at NAB

4Caster M2 Encoders Enable Delivery of Multiple Live Channels and Interactivity to a Wide Variety of Mobile Devices

South San Francisco, CA – April 14, 2008 – Envivio Inc., the leading technology provider of IP video convergence encoding solutions from mobile to HD, today announced that its 4Caster M2 mobile TV encoders are being used in the live demonstration at NAB 2008 of the A-VSB Initiative’s proposed technology solution for ATSC-M/H based mobile broadcast television services. Announced yesterday by the A-VSB Initiative, which includes Samsung, Rohde & Schwarz, MobiTV, SES-Americom and Nokia Siemens Networks, the demonstration uses Envivio mobile TV encoders that enable efficient delivery of high quality advanced mobile broadcast TV services to a broad range of mobile devices including mobile phones, portable media players (PMP) and ultra mobile PCs (UMPC).

The A-VSB Initiative demonstration showcases a mobile TV broadcast from a local TV station. It includes live simulcasts of a local TV channel and a national channel distributed over the station’s existing DTV transmission infrastructure. In addition, two interactive channels of content encoded using Envivio systems are being distributed to enable the A-VSB Initiative to illustrate user interactivity and electronic program guide (EPG) functionality. The A-VSB Initiative demonstration can be viewed at its booth (Hall C, Booth 1539) and also on the move via a bus tour.

As the world’s leading supplier of encoding solutions for mobile TV, Envivio products power hundreds of mobile TV deployments worldwide. The A-VSB Initiative’s mobile broadcast TV demonstration required an encoding solution that could deliver high quality video and audio at less than 500 kbps to a broad range of devices.  Envivio was able to optimize the parameters within the 4Caster M2 encoder to ensure a high quality experience on all the devices simultaneously.

The flexible design of Envivio’s encoding architecture enables the company to accommodate evolving mobile TV requirements, such as A-VSB, quickly and easily within its existing, widely deployed 4Caster M2 product. With its built-in support for multi-profile encoding, and advanced statistical and network aware rate controls, the 4Caster M2 delivers the optimum mobile TV viewing experience to any mobile device via any transmission infrastructure.
