Envivio and Sigma Designs Offer MPEG-4 Set-Top Box Solution

Novemver 28, 2001, Brisbane, CA: Envivio.com Inc., a leader in MPEG-4 end-to-end broadcasting solutions, today announces its MPEG-4 solution for the set top box using the Sigma Designs (Nasdaq:SIGM) EM8470 decoder chip. The decoder chip is integrated with the EnvivioTV player to provide a complete MPEG-4 solution for the set top box.

“Our partnership with Envivio has resulted in a world-class platform for deploying MPEG-4 based systems into the consumer environment,” stated Ken Lowe, Vice President of Business Development. “By sharing selected technologies, we can create end-to-end streaming solutions while strengthening our individual offerings.”

Using Sigma’s EM8470 decoder, Envivio is able to stream MPEG-4 compatible content to television. Envivio and Sigma Designs are both members of the ISMA (Internet Streaming Media Alliance) in order to ensure compatibility with other ISMA equipments and vendors.   Content broadcast using MPEG-4 encoding can save bandwidth compared to MPEG-2 without compromising the quality and amount of content sent to the end user.  Envivio will be demonstrating the set top box solution at the Western Cable Show in Anaheim, California, November 28th-30th.

“By using the Sigma Designs EM8470 chip integrated with the Envivio software solution, network operators can take advantage of MPEG-4 enhanced compression for television applications now. With the unique advanced features of the Envivio platform, operators can also deploy standards compliant, revenue generating applications such as video on demand, interactive programs and advertising, and e-commerce in a secure environment” stated Julien Signes, CTO and co-founder of Envivio.

Envivio has created a leading MPEG-4 software solution for the professional media industry, including broadband, satellite and cable network operators as well as content developers. The company showcased at NAB 2001 the first demonstrations of an end-to-end Streaming MPEG-4 application suite, with an RTP/RTSP-compliant MPEG-4 streaming server, offline and real-timesoftware MPEG-4 encoders and EnvivioTV™, Envivio's client software for PCs, set top boxes and appliances.

The MPEG-4 Professional Media Software Solution is comprised of five products:

1.

Envivio Streaming Server (ESS): An MPEG-4 compliant streaming server for management and distribution of video and interactive multimedia content through IP networks to EnvivioTV™ or any other MPEG-4 player.

2 .

Envivio Live Broadcaster (ELB): A real-time, ISMA 1.0 compatible, MPEG-4 system that enables encoding and broadcasting from a live or pre-recorded audio and video source.

3.

Envivio Encoding Station (EES): A system that enables the creation from audiovisual sequences of MP4 files that contain audio and video streams and protect them.

4.

Envivio TV™ (ETV): An MPEG-4 player with video, graphics and interactive support and full digital rights protection for content, available on PCs, and designed for set-top boxes and other appliances.

5.

Envivio Broadcast Studio (EBS): Multi-user, non-linear media composition, encoding and interactive design production of MP4 files.
