Envivio Announces the World’s First MPEG-4 Real-Time Encoder with DVD Resolution
Envivio Delivers a real-time software MPEG-4 ISMA encoder with improved quality and support of full D1 resolution
South San Francisco, CA, March 14, 2002 — Envivio, the leader in MPEG-4 solutions, today announced a major improvement in the ability to stream standards compliant audio and video over the Internet. Envivio Live Broadcaster is the world’s first full D1 (DVD) resolution real-time encoder. In addition to higher quality picture, the Live Broadcaster provides improved compression and advanced options to enable corporations and service providers to stream higher quality content at a lower bit rate. By enabling our Live Broadcaster software on Intel® XeonTM™ processor-based servers , Envivio is able to provide a cost-effective solution to encode and stream DVD resolution.
Utilizing the advanced Intel® Xeon™ processor, Envivio is able to provide optimized encoding and the highest level of quality. "Envivio's Live Broadcaster encoding software along with high-performance Intel-based servers using the Xeon(tm) processor and PC clients with the Pentium® 4 processor provide a complete solution to compress, distribute, and view high quality content on multiple devices," said Tom Gibbs, Director of Solutions Development at Intel Corporation. "Intel is happy to be working closely with Envivio to optimize both the server and client software and assist them with co-marketing activities to accelerate the market adoption of MPEG-4 as the ISO/IEC multi-media standard."
Customers such as Declic Communications in France, who create and encode content, have used Envivio’s advanced encoders running on Intel platforms to create high quality content for their customers. “We have used other real- time encoders, and believe that Envivio’s new Live Broadcaster is the best product for our streaming needs of quality and standards compliance”, Marc Morin, Content Production Manager at Declic said. “As an Internet design company, we encode content for a wide range of customers, using Envivio’s MPEG-4 solutions provides us with the most flexibility.”
Envivio’s Live Broadcaster not only includes new and advanced encoding algorithms to obtain higher compression, but also a number of other features which enable optimized and user friendly applications, including an API for development, a remote management system, and real time encoding at full D1 resolution. “We are excited to bring full screen MPEG-4 encoding to the marketplace,” stated Julien Signes, CTO at Envivio. “The broadcast and streaming community has been asking for DVD quality, full screen resolution at a lower bit rate, and today they have it.” With this product, a broadcaster attains the high quality they expect, while using less bandwidth. This represents a breakthrough in software MPEG-4 encoders, and brings to market a key feature the streaming and broadcast community want today.
