Envivio and Opcion Cable Enter Into Agreement to Develop and Distribute MPEG-4 "Triple Play" Solution to Cable Operators Throughout Mexico
South San Francisco, Calif., October 17, 2002 - Envivio Inc, a leading provider of end-to-end broadcast and streaming solutions and Opcion Cable sa de cv, announced that they have entered into an agreement to create and distribute an end-to-end solution using Envivio’s MPEG-4 products to provide live and VOD programming to cable operators throughout Mexico.
As part of this agreement, Opcion Cable will use Envivio as their exclusive supplier of MPEG-4 products and services in their development of a hybrid cable television network referred to as the Triple Play. The Triple Play broadband services include television, telephony, and internet access and will allow consumers to experience e-commerce, interactive video-on-demand, educational programming, along with telephone services, and broadband internet access. The solution will be marketed through The Mexican Association of Public Networks (AMRED), a non-profit trade association, to its more than 200 members who make up the majority of Mexico’s cable television operators.
“By partnering with Opcion Cable and AMRED we have the opportunity to introduce our MPEG-4 solutions to the decision makers of Mexico’s cable industry and further extend the deployment of MPEG-4 throughout Mexico and the world,” said Julien Signes, president of Envivio.
A demonstration of the Triple Play solution is being showcased at AMRED’s annual conference in Cancun, Mexico October 16-18. Live programming supplied via satellite feeds from Mexico City and Cancun will be streamed to the local head end and distributed to IP-enabled set-top boxes running the EnvivioTV player.
“By integrating Envivio’s MPEG-4 products into our Triple Play solution, we offer cable operators a cost-effective way to reduce bandwidth and storage costs which will allow them to deliver more channels over the same bandwidth they are using today,” said Jose Gabriel Gutierrez of Opcion Cable. “In addition, we will be able to provide advanced entertainment services to subscribers that will bring additional revenue opportunities to the cable operators.”
