Envivio Announces H.264 Live Solution for Cost-Effective Delivery of Broadcast-Quality Video Over Satellite Networks
Envivio to Demo H.264 Live Solution at NAB 2003 Conference
Las Vegas, NV – April 7, 2003 – Envivio, Inc., a leading provider of MPEG-4 broadcast and streaming solutions, announced today its H.264 live solution to cost-effectively deliver live broadcast-quality video over satellite, cable, and telecommunications networks. The Envivio solution offers a significant improvement in coding efficiency compared to other compression standards such as MPEG-2.
H.264 Advanced Video Coding (AVC) is the new codec developed by the MPEG ISO and ITU-T groups. Envivio has been instrumental in developing the H.264 standard to improve compression efficiency, and will deliver H.264 throughout its product line.
Envivio will demonstrate the standards-based live H.264 solution for the first time at Envivio booth SL3639 at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Conference, April 7-10, in Las Vegas, California. Envivio developed its live H.264 solution based on the H.264 compression standard. Envivio’s H.264 video-on-demand (VOD) version was shown at the Broadband Plus conference last November and is available now through its ‘Getting Started’ Preview Program.
In independent lab tests, H.264 showed a 50 to 60 percent improvement in bit rate reduction, making it much more cost effective to deliver live broadcast quality over satellite, cable, and telecommunications networks.
“We have evolved our H.264 encoding solution in parallel with the H.264 standards committee, and have integrated the standard within both our VOD Encoding Station and our Live Broadcaster,” said Eric Deniau, Vice President of Engineering, Envivio. “We anticipate that final approvals of the H.264 standard will occur in late spring 2003, and we want our customers to be the first to take advantage of this cost-effective standard.”
To transition customers into the H.264 standard, Envivio is offering a ‘Getting Started’ H.264 Preview Program for its VOD version of the H.264 solution. As part of the program, customers receive an Envivio H.264 encoding station appliance, a 90-day evaluation license of Envivio Encoding Station, and an unlimited license of EnvivioTV™ that supports AVC decode. In addition, customers get free upgrades to the final released product.
