Envivio MPEG-4 Solutions and TUXIA iTV Middleware Demonstrate End-to-End IP Television Platform
Envivio to Demonstrate MPEG-4 Interactive TV Solutions at NAB Conference in Las Vegas
Las Vegas, NV – April 7, 2003 – Envivio, a leading provider of MPEG-4 broadcast and streaming solutions, and TUXIA, a provider of advanced iTV software platforms, today announced TUXIA’s support of Envivio product with its Linux-based iTV Middleware TASTE for telecom service providers and network operators. TUXIA’s software technology was developed for digital IP-based set-top boxes for broadband streaming, hospitality, and corporate communication markets.
TUXIA’s open standards based iTV solution is a highly customizable and configurable software solution for IP-streaming set-top boxes. By using Linux OS and XML-based GUI on a Mozilla web browser, TUXIA’s componentized TSE platform builder kit shortens the time of development and time-to-deploy, thereby reducing the development cost while providing manufacturers and system integrators with a reusable software platform for multiple customers.
Envivio’s MPEG-4 video broadcast and streaming solution is supported with TUXIA’s “Purple TASTE” implementation, which is integrated into GCT Allwell’s IP-streaming set-top box. The set-top box supports MPEG-4 decoding via Sigma Design’s EM847x MPEG decoder for ISMA-compliant video streaming. Combined, the hardware and software components demonstrate an end-to-end low-bandwidth IP television solution. Envivio’s integrated pieces include the Envivio 4-Caster™, which captures, encodes, and streams live content; the 4-Sight™ video server that supports unicast streaming for media on demand and multicast streaming for media broadcasts; and the Envivio 4-Manager™, a realtime control server that manages multiple encoder and server components within an IP television headend.
“TUXIA’s easy-to-install Purple TASTE implementation is a perfect fit for Envivio’s interactive MPEG-4 headend products such as the Envivio 4-Caster, Envivio 4-Sight, and Envivio 4-Manager, which are configured to integrate with TUXIA’s iTV solution,” said Julien Signes, President and CTO of Envivio. ”We are excited to work with TUXIA and their next-generation IP television platform, which takes the Internet and world of multimedia to the TV screen.”
“TUXIA’s partnership with Envivio, a leading provider of end-to-end MPEG-4 broadcast and streaming solutions, is a logical step for us to provide a digital set-top box software solution for low-bandwidth IP television requirements,” said Franz Hintermayr, Sr. Vice President at TUXIA. “The power of the Envivio MPEG-4 solution allows MPEG-2 quality video and audio streaming over a 1.5 Mbps connection (MPEG-2 requires 3 Mbps minimum), significantly reducing bandwidth and allowing new applications and revenue opportunities.”
