Envivio to Integrate Sigma Designs HDTV MPEG-4 Decoder Chip Into Cost-Effective MPEG-4 Digital TV Playback Solution
Offers Telcos Low-Cost, High-Performance Solution for Digital TV and Other Applications
Atlanta, GA – June 3, 2003 – Envivio, Inc., a leading provider of MPEG-4 broadcast and streaming solutions, and Sigma Designs, Inc. (Nasdaq: SIGM), a leader in IP video streaming solutions, announced today integration of Sigma’s high-definition television (HDTV) decoder chip with Envivio’s leading MPEG-4 IP technology to meet the HD needs of the telco industry. Together, the offering will provide telcos, utilities, MSOs, and ISPs a low-cost, high-performance solution that supports digital TV, DVD, video-on-demand (VOD), and personal video recording (PVR) applications.
High-definition video, which occupies four to six times the bandwidth of standard video, is driving video service providers to use more efficient MPEG-4 technologies to maintain their full complement of channels. The Envivio MPEG-4 product suite offers better bandwidth and reduced storage requirements over conventional broadcast formats, protects assets to secure and monetize access to content through DRM solutions, and provides additional telco revenue sources through advanced applications and services.
The Sigma MPEG-4 HD decoder chip, which will reside in the set-top box along with the Envivio 4-View™ player software, features high-definition decoding in MPEG-4 format and top-quality video output.
