Envivio Unveils Complete Integrated Line of Award-Winning MPEG-4 and H.264 Live Systems and Solutions

Systems Offer Broadcasters Performance and Quality Improvements, Real-Time H.264 Encoding, Reduced Costs, and Additional Revenue Opportunities

IBC2003, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 12, 2003 – Envivio, Inc., a leading provider of MPEG-4 and H.264 broadcast and streaming solutions, announced today the availability of its complete integrated line of award-winning MPEG-4 and H.264 live systems and solutions. The complete line of end-to-end MPEG-4 and H.264 systems and solutions are being shown at Envivio Stand 4.261 at IBC2003, Amsterdam.

The Envivio show case includes IP television solutions using MPEG-4 and H.264 live systems; broadcast DVB solutions; live H.264 encoder and decoder systems; satellite systems; HD SDI ingest and distribution solutions; and enterprise communications systems. The first-ever available end-to-end H.264 broadcast solution is highlighted at the event.

Envivio systems consist of real-time and offline high-quality MPEG-4 encoders that reduce the bandwidth required for DVD-quality video in half, servers with shared storage file systems that can be deployed anywhere on a network to store and deliver interactive video content; high-performance players and decoders for set-top boxes; and remote management systems to control and monitor all the equipment deployed in headend locations. In addition, the Envivio systems have been designed to encode and transcode into various formats, including H.264 and high definition (HD).

Envivio’s MPEG-4 IPTV and broadcast DVB systems and solutions, which mostly reside at the headend to improve quality and lower the bandwidth requirements of MPEG-2 systems, create new video services and increased subscriber "uptake," and, consequently, result in significantly higher income from broadband networks. In addition, the MPEG-4 compression format consists of inherent interactivity within the stream format to enable new interactive content without the need for proprietary middleware.

H.264 (AVC) Compression

The H.264 codec, developed by the MPEG ISO and ITU-T groups, has been integrated within all Envivio products. The H.264 codec offers:
