Envivio Announces the World’s First Real-Time Intel® Xeon™ Processor-Based H.264 Encoder System

Envivio 4Caster™ Family Drives Satellite Transmission and IP Video Companies Worldwide

IBC2003, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 12, 2003 – Envivio, Inc., a leading provider of MPEG-4 and H.264 broadcast and streaming solutions, announced today its implementation of the world’s first real-time H.264 encoder system based on the Intel® Xeon™ processor. The Envivio 4Caster™ real-time H.264 encoder uses the Hyper-Threading technology of the Intel Xeon processor to provide real-time encoding for full-resolution, full frame rate video.

The Envivio 4Caster family, as well as other Envivio MPEG-4 and H.264 systems and solutions, are being show cased this week in Stand 4.261 at the IBC2003 exhibition in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

All H.264 4Caster real-time encoder systems take advantage of the Intel Xeon processor IntelNetBurst™ microarchitecture, Hyper-Threading technology, and integrated three-level cache architecture to deliver outstanding levels of network bandwidth efficiency over conventional MPEG-2 systems. In addition, the Intel Xeon processor technology allows the H.264 4Caster real-time encoder systems to scale in terms of users and emerging technologies.

"Intel Xeon processor-based platforms with hyper-threading technology delivers unique value at a low cost for high-performance broadcast video equipment," said Tom Gibbs, Director, Solutions Market Development Group, Intel. “We are pleased to work with Envivio to make this offering a reality in today’s fast-moving television marketplace."

"Envivio’s new multiprocessing H.264 4Caster encoding system, based on the Intel Xeon processor, makes real-time H.264 encoding a reality," said Dr. Michael Ropert, Envivio’s Codec Team Leader. "This new product takes advantage of Envivio’s unique ability to use multiple processors to decompose and reconstruct compressed video in real time."

The Envivio 4Caster family is currently used by satellite transmission and IP video companies throughout the world and has been designed to meet the needs of all fixed and mobile professional video contribution and distribution applications. Since it uses MPEG-4 and H.264 formats, the 4Caster system requires only one encoding scheme for all playback devices.

Envivio is also show casing at IBC2003 its complete suite of MPEG-4 and High-Definition (HD) systems and solutions, including the Envivio 4Coder™ MPEG-4 offline encoder, 4Sight™ MPEG-4 streaming server, 4Manager™ MPEG-4 management and control system, 4View™ MPEG-4 decoder, 4Mation™ interactive MPEG-4 authoring tool, and 4Forum™ enterprise communications system.

Envivio is the quality leader in MPEG-4 and H.264 systems. Founded 7 years ago as a unit of France Telecom, Envivio’s investors include NTT, Intel Capital, Mitac, and Sigma Designs.
