Envivio Demonstrates First Live Full-Resolution (CCIR-601) H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC Main Profile) Transmission on Hughes Network Systems DIRECWAY Satellite

Solution is Showcased at the Satellite 2004 Conference and Exhibition, Washington, D.C., in Hughes Network Systems Booth

Washington, D.C. – March 3, 2004 – Envivio, Inc., a leading provider of MPEG-4 and H.264 broadcast and streaming solutions, today demonstrated for the first time the distribution of H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) encoded content over the Hughes satellite network. The live source content is encoded at 1.2 Mbps. Traditional MPEG-2 systems use twice this bandwidth for an equivalent quality. The demonstration uses the Envivio 4Caster™ H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) live broadcast encoder at the Hughes Germantown Headquarters. The video is transmitted over the DIRECWAY satellite system to Hughes Booth 501 at the Satellite 2004 show floor. Content is decoded using the Envivio 4View™ H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) broadcast decoder.

"We see this technology and the Envivio products lowering video transmission costs and enabling new low bit-rate markets," said Mark Shaw, Director of Business Development, Hughes Network Systems. "Envivio is clearly a leader in providing full H.264 solutions for satellite transmission. We look forward to working with Envivio to deploy enterprise and broadcast applications using our latest satellite system and Envivio H.264 broadcast-quality encoders and decoders."

"We’re excited to demonstrate the power, efficiency, and ease of MPEG-4 H.264 integration with the Hughes DIRECWAY satellite system," said Julien Signès, President and CTO of Envivio. "This integration results in a significant reduction in network bandwidth compared to MPEG-2 systems and, consequently, opens the door to more value-added possibilities within the broadcast market."

Envivio is currently shipping the 4Caster 3500 2CIF H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) encoder and is taking orders for the 4Caster 4500 full-resolution H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) encoder. The new encoder and decoder products are being demonstrated for the duration of the Satellite 2004 conference and exhibition at Hughes Network Systems booth 501.
