Envivio, Inc. Showcases MPEG-4 Triple Play Solution in China at CCBN 2005

Complete IPTV System for Live TV, VOD & VoIP Powered by Envivio Products

South San Francisco, CA, March 21, 2005 – Envivio, Inc. is showcasing a complete IPTV system using MPEG-4 (including AVC / H.264) in China at the CCBN 2005 trade show in its booth 2305. The demonstrated solution can be viewed from March 21 - 23, 2005 at the China International Exhibition Center in Beijing. The open standards-based Envivio? encoders, middleware and decoders combine to power IP applications for live television, video-on-demand (VOD) and voice services. The integrated triple play Envivio solution optimizes network bandwidth while providing high quality interactive services.

"To remain competitive, operators must offer more than video, audio and data services. They must make those services compelling, yet simple to use and easy to support," said Bob DeFeo, Chief Executive Officer at Envivio, Inc. "The low bit-rates and high quality video delivered by Envivio encoders and decoders allow operators to utilize their existing network infrastructure to offer services that were not previously viable."

As a leading technology provider of MPEG-4 systems, Envivio, Inc. is well suited to assist operators around the world as they introduce IPTV services. By embedding information within the MPEG-4 stream and treating applications as content, a single client device can decode the video, audio, and data as well as navigate through interactive menus. Using Envivio systems makes new revenue streams and business models possible, because the client device can reside on different platforms such as personal computers, set-top boxes, and mobile phones.

Video services have proven to be the key to significant subscriber uptake and ARPU. In the showcased demonstration, IP video is transported using Envivio, Inc.’s suite of 4Caster™ broadcast encoders, 4Sight™ interactive streaming servers, and 4View™ decoders. IP video services are delivered and managed using the 4Front™ application server and client portal. Operators can select from the complete line of Envivio products or mix and match systems from other open standards-based vendors as they enhance their networks to offer IPTV services.

IPTV is a method of delivering broadcast television as well as on-demand media and interactive services using an Internet Protocol or IP network as the medium. Since any broadband IP network can be used for IPTV, telephone companies and cable or satellite television carriers armed with the right systems gain the ability to deliver digital television and other services to mass audiences over their existing communications infrastructures. To assist operators, a consortium named IPlay3 was created to merge the market-leading technologies from Envivio, Inc., NetCentrex and Highdeal into a turnkey, flexible and cost-effective triple play solution. The solution consists of the following integrated components: IP telephony (aka VoIP), IP video, and subscriber services such as service bundling and OSS.

At present there are over 16 million IPTV users in Europe alone, and more than 100 million online radio listeners around the world. Major Chinese telecom carriers including China Telecom, China Netcom, China Unicom and China Mobile are laying the foundation for offering IPTV services. China Telecom has even included IPTV as part of its "China Vnet" plan and announced they will make it one of its key broadband video application services. CCBN is using its trade show to further educate these and other operators to the benefits and latest technology advances in delivering IPTV. The Envivio demonstration establishes another milestone for this key market by taking the industry from science fiction to science fact.
