Envivio, Inc. Chosen for the World’s First Satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting Service for Mobile Devices

4Caster™ Real-Time H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) Encoders to Power Live Feeds for the Mobile Broadcasting Corporation in Japan

South San Francisco, CA, March 29, 2005 – As the Mobile Broadcasting Corporation (mbco) continues to expand its MobaHO!™ service, the world's first satellite digital multimedia broadcasting service for personal, and mobile device use, it has selected Envivio, Inc.'s H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC) encoding systems. The 4Caster™ real-time systems will encode the live feeds for delivery to devices throughout Japan.

MobaHO! launched in 2004, makes it possible for subscribers to view and listen to multimedia programming. The fee-based service that allows subscribers to select service plans shaped by their interests. Plans may offer 30 audio channels, including overseas FM radio and genre-specific music, and at least eight video channels, including news, sports, and entertainment programming.

The video delivery of their current service is accomplished using MPEG-4 simple profile technology. To further enhance service quality, mbco plans to start broadcasting with Envivio H.264 technology in the near future.

"Our subscribers are seeking quality services and a valuable entertainment experience," said Koichi Minemura, Executive Vice President of mbco. "To satisfy their needs and minimize our bandwidth costs, we were seeking systems backed by a technology leading company. Envivio, Inc. has demonstrated both the ability and ingenuity we required."

Optimized bandwidth use for maximum quality services across the wireless spectrum makes the Envivio® systems an excellent choice for mbco. The 4Caster encoding systems include sophisticated system management such as monitoring, management privileges, and redundancy features. Using the AVC/H.264 video compression algorithms may allow mbco to offer optimal video quality at bit rates nearly 40 percent lower than other compression technologies.

"We congratulate mbco as they continue to achieve milestone after milestone for its MobaHO! service. The company is demonstrating that it is technically possible and financially viable to provide subscribers with multimedia entertainment wherever they may be," said Julien Signes, President and CTO of Envivio, Inc. "mbco is setting an example for service providers worldwide and it is an honor to have been selected by them."
