Envivio to Introduce Fourth Generation MPEG-4 SD Encoding System at IBC2005
Superior AVC/H.264 Compression of 4Caster™ B3 Delivers the Highest Quality Video at Any Bit Rate

South San Francisco, CA – September 7, 2005 – Envivio Inc. will introduce the newest member of its 4Caster™ Broadcast Series real time MPEG-4 encoders at IBC2005 in its stand #1.351. Ideal for applications from contribution to distribution, the 4Caster B3 encoder delivers the most complete implementation of MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression techniques available in hardware today.
"The B3 encoder is the fourth generation of MPEG-4 encoders from Envivio. Combining over eight years of research and development in video compression with the experience of deploying systems for broadcast, mobile, enterprise and IPTV applications, Envivio is launching the most advanced MPEG-4 encoder to date," said Julien Signès, President and CTO of Envivio Inc. "Its implementation of the AVC/H.264 toolkit is unequaled, making the B3 perfect for any application where the last mile bit rate is critical such as broadcast and IPTV. Service providers can now leverage the power of the B3 encoder to deploy IPTV at under 2 Mbps per video stream. We invite everyone to visit our IBC stand to see the quality and range of features of our new flagship encoder."
4Caster B3's Advanced Pre-Processing Features Deliver Superior Picture Quality
The B3's all-new, hardware platform combined with superior encoding algorithms offers broadcasters and IPTV service providers greater processing power for advanced compression capabilities and noise reduction for bandwidth constrained applications. Increased bandwidth efficiency combined with high quality video in lower bit rates, allows operators to expand service offerings while optimizing throughput over their distribution networks.
Containing the most comprehensive implementation of the MPEG-4 toolset, features of the B3 encoder include:
- lookahead video analysis with advanced transition detection,
- video pre-processing with motion compensated temporal filtering,
- motion estimation with multiple reference frames,
- native interlaced video encoding support,
- digital and analog interfaces for both audio and video,
- DVB-ASI and IP outputs,
- multiple broadcast transport output (MPEG-2 TS over UDP, MPEG-2 TS over RTP and/or straight H.264/AAC over RTP),
- and instant recording capabilities with offline file exchange for store and forward applications.
4Caster B3 Encoder to be Showcased in Envivio's IBC Stand #1.351
The 4Caster B3 encoders include sophisticated system management with monitoring and redundancy features. The advanced implementation of the AVC/H.264 video compression algorithms may allow service providers to deliver optimal video quality at bit rates twice as low as existing compression technologies. The new system delivers the highest quality, full resolution and frame rate video at less than 2 Mps. Having completed a rigorous beta phase, the encoder will be fully released by the fourth quarter of 2005.
