Envivio Demonstrates First Live AVC/H.264 Encoded HD Stream at 6 Mbps for Satellite Contribution Applications Using DVB-S2
South San Francisco, CA – October 26, 2005 – Envivio demonstrates first live AVC/H.264 encoded High Definition (HD) stream at six megabits for satellite contribution applications using DVB-S2 at SATCON 2005, in its booth #520. The 4Caster™ HD3 is being shown in conjunction with a DVB-S2 system from Advantech (booth #110) that allows narrow-bandwidth transmission using modulation and error correction techniques included in the latest DVB standard. The combination of the Envivio HD3 encoder and the Advantech AMT 75 DVB-S2 modem, featured in this demonstration, allows low data rate HD transmission of sporting events, concerts, digital dailies and network to affiliate content using existing satellite bandwidth for live digital news gathering or as part of a store and forward system.
Key to the showcased application is the carriage of high quality HD video using a DVB-S2 modulator capable of symbol rates between 128 kSymbols per second to 45 MSymbols per second. This capability allows live HD contribution and distribution broadcast applications to operate over much lower bandwidths than previously possible. Additionally, the HD3 can deliver non-real time content when satellite bandwidth is limited.
The Envivio 4Caster HD3 system delivers industry leading picture quality at HD resolutions up to 1080i and supports the wide range of output, encapsulation and file formats required to stream over existing network or broadcast infrastructure. The HD3 is based on new hardware supporting both blade and one rack unit (1 RU) formats, providing the highest available degree of flexibility and quality for telco and broadcast applications. Like other 4Caster Broadcast Series encoders, the HD3 implements specific algorithms developed and refined by Envivio to support real time encoding as well as store and forward capabilities.
