Envivio's Broadcast Series of standard definition (SD) MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 and High Definition (HD) MPEG-4 encoders are ideal for contribution and distribution applications.

Standard definition (SD) real time and offline systems offer significant reductions in bit rate to deliver industry leading broadcast quality video at full resolution and frame rate. The systems feature specific algorithms developed and refined by Envivio to support real time encoding as well as store and forward capabilities. The advanced implementation of the AVC/H.264 video compression algorithms allows service providers to deliver optimal video quality at bit rates twice as low as existing compression technologies. Applications that can benefit from these encoding systems include digital news gathering (DNG), video archiving, digital dailies, live broadcasting, video on demand (VOD), pay per view, and other services delivered via cable, IPTV, mobile, satellite, or terrestrial networks.

High definition (HD) video is enabling broadcasters and service providers to offer their customers the ultimate in television picture quality. However, since HD content requires four to six times the bandwidth of standard definition material, the cost of delivering HD services can be high, especially when using traditional MPEG-2 compression methods which are limited to bit rates at over 12 Mbps. New applications and services such as IPTV combined with an ever increasing consumer demand for high quality content requires an efficient and cost effective solution for delivering HD services over IP, digital terrestrial, satellite and cable networks.
